Wikipedia going dark!

A day without the English version of Wiki information online. It’s supposed to happen Wednesday as they show how much they don’t like a proposed piracy-protection lawsuit. It’s called S.O.P.A. The stop online piracy act. The house of representatives believes it will stop the sale of pirated goods overseas. Among the reasons the big two websites don’t like it are what they claim are free speech, cyber security and domain rights issues that will result if it passes. Others claim it will amount to censorship of what you see and read on the net. Google says they plan on a link from their site homepage to bring attention to it, but won’t be going dark. The two online communities Reddit and Boing Boing say they will follow Wiki and blackout and it may include others. What do you think it would be like to have what you read or see or have access to online monitored and approved by the government? Wiki wants you to contact your member of congress and share your opinion during the blackout. Why not take a second and read up on it and decide for yourself. What if Google went dark for a day? Would it matter to you? Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter and Craigslist have also spoken out claiming it will threaten the industry’s livelihood. The film and music industry are also on the bandwagon.
